CW28 ... BLAH

Mon Aug 24, 2009, 7:20 AM
It's been a year since the first time (2008 Jul CW26) I have been attend to the doujin Con (fan art comic fair? how do you say it)... Yes I did post my fan art online since 2005, but the first time I went exhibit was 2008 JUL ... can't believe it's already a year as time passing too damn fast, also can't believe it was only a year coz I already knew so many people from the events and local comic+anime radio. During the 2 days in CW28 more than 40 people came by and said hi to me .. I guess ...

One thing I am a little envy is most of the people there are going with their friends (I'm talking about those who have the booth in the con, not the visitors) and I always been going on my own + with the people I'm sharing the booth with ... But I won't ask my friends to come with me since most of my close friends are not Chinese (that they wouldn't understand what people are saying in the con) and more importantly, they don't read comic, so you won't even ask them to go when Doujin is even more an Otaku thing comparing to commercial comics ..

...Freaking exhausted and spent the whole day recovering at home today...

Even friends I know from the con said my books are selling well, esp. for original creation and not just parody fan art books, but still.... The APH fan art books were selling Okay, only a few of them left and after they all sold out I don't think I would reprint it...ODS(Original works)was sellingokay too, but not GREAT.

Guess I'm just far from enough.. my comic style isn't popular in Hong Kong (as I said before, people prefer cute big eyes dolly drawing) but still, this is not the lame excuse to spoil myself... I need to read more reference, especially the CG colouring that I really am suck at it(DOH!)

My lazy arse was sticking on the booth chair most of the time, but still I've taken some photos of the cosplayers - mostly were APH characters ( Apparently me thinks the European characters should be cosplaying by European...OUCH don't hit me )

Thank you all who bought my book ... I'm really happy. Really.

Now back to draw....

Though I find that cute big eyed drawings are best sellers, your style is nothing short of brilliance. It seems to be the type to sell well regardless of what is popular.

But that's just what I see from Canada.

I would most definitely, 100% buy your APH doujinshii if it was in english. Which I wish it was.

Don't give up hope! You're an amazing artist~!

The problem with here is that it's where I'm from.

hahah Thank you so much! I just don't understand why the cute big eyes drawings are so popular anyways?
oh hang on when I was 14 I love those too ...

May be next time I should make my fan art book bilingual if you said so :)

I will work hard to make better comid :) Thanks ;)

*prod prod* We're the weirdos sitting next to your table ]DDD

To be honest I don't think it really matters if your friends know chinese and/or likes manga XD

Although it reallllyyy helps that they do, if you nag them enough even the ones scared of cosplayers will go: "haiiiii. Pa jo lei lah D8" and just come along ]DDDDDDD *SHOT*

Try asking them anyway, their response might be surprising 8DDD

And honestly it's not really like we were selling too well either for being sparkly googooeyed circle XDDDD HK con goers seems to...demand a very specific kind of trend line and it's so hard to cater for >___< (What more we didn't want to draw stuff we didn't like and...while APH was cute it really wasn't too interesting for us T^T double fault for liking KHR's 1827 instead of D18 too loool)

Anyhoo, I know we've never spoken but personally I think it's pretty awesome that you're sticking to your own style and own kind of work XDXD I've seen your stuff in Sino Center but never got around to buying it since I can't exactly read Chinese >_>;;; (I know, fail right lol; )

Btw, have you ever seen gwai-los cosplaying as China ]DDD?
It's faaarrrr more scary than Asians cosplaying as European characters :'D (At least they manage to look cute :'D )

Anyhoo, Add Oil!! And hope you do well next year too XD!!

hey you!=)

i just checked your page ... WHAT YOU BORN IN 1988?! For the young age you draw REALLY well! *SHOCKED* When I looked at your art I thought you were much older!

Come on you girls are not weird but cute. (really.)
I wish I could do cosplay but I only like tall handsome male characters and I don't think I could look any good cosplaying them.. (.. like Roy in FMA, Germany in APH ... oops sorry you've got no love for APH XD)

It DOES matter my friends don't know Chinese or read comic(manga), because it would be very boring for them to come over for a whole day.. in fact last time (CW27) I get one of my close friend (a Brit girl) to come with me since I couldn't find anyone to share my booth with and considered that if I want to go to the loo no body would be there in my booth (in return I have to take care of her guinea pig for a week XD), and the worse thing is my sister was too busy to come help me ... Eventually she was BORED TO DEATH there, and she even feel uncomfortable of the ways locals look at her (like "why on earth there's a gwemui inside the booth) ... if she is an Otaku it would be better, but she don't understand the whole manga or doujin culture in Asia and most of my friends are just like her... she found the cosplay things are interesting but only at the first 2 hours .. I was so sorry that she was so bored because it was a whole day .. *crash my head to the wall and die*

Your books aren't selling too well? I saw tonnes of people came by and bought your books! =) hehe. I know what you are talking about the specific kind of style and mine is just tooooooo far away from it *sad smile*

You even go to Sino Centre to check comic? but most of the manga there are in Chinese, or you may able to read Japanese?

In fact my original comic also published in English version (that I was translating it for my friends, and of course this is not Engrish like my writing here --- my friend was helping me to prove read it before i sent it to print) and actually I was selling the English version in CW28 as well - just very few local would touch the English version =)

Gwelio cosplaying China ... YUCK lol
Now I will shut up for Asian cosplaying as European Characters coz yes - at least they look cute lol

I'm 'adding oil"! thanks for the message.
Let's hope for the best next time :-)

Really? I'll check it properly next time 8DD I remember going to your site once and the premise sounded interesting. I just assume that everything in hk comic-cons are Chinese though so I don't buy comics for story >_>;
If I ever do buy comics it's just to look at pretty pictures (...like I do with Japanese Doujinshi :'D I wish I could read it but I haven't a clue what it says :'D) And even then I'm super picky about what I buy since bad inking or paper quality makes me want to die (It's the price of not being able to read ]DD I obsess about all the other details I wouldn't usually care about loool)

I'm actually Korean and since me and my friends all went to international schools our chinese is super fail ]DDD One of my friends can read enough to enjoy manga though so I visit the comic stores in Sino Center quite frequently for her to buy stuff (I also buy my KHR + Nendoroids there *A*!!!).

Also I suppose it would matter if it's just ONE friend but if you drag a huge mass of them (As in two, three, four, etc.) who knows each other it'll just be like a random gathering in a weird vicinity X'D At least...that's what I do even if most of my friends would rather hide in a pit than look at BL ]DDDDDDDD *drags them anyway*

Maybe I'm just not very nice hahaha

As for cosplaying....I was a total TRAP lol;;;
I was cosplaying Naruto as a girl X'DDDDDD you don't get anymore cheating than that, and even if you only like tall handsome characters, most male character cosplays are done by girls anyway ]D Why not just have a try 8D?

Next summer I want to also try attending an american convention :< Apparently it makes a lot more sales, and I want to see how crazy it is XDXD

Ahhhhh~ *keeps dreaming*

Yes sure! in fact "Otaku Cafe" (in front of Sino Centre) also selling the Chinese AND English version. (just letting you know, no pressure XD)

I know you are Korean after check out your page - also you write your school there so I know you are from International school (King George V - the one in Kowloon Tong isn't it? I used to have a friend who is a teacher there XD *not telling who* and a few of my friends are from local International school too, like German Swiss , CIS etc ...) :)

Yes one or 2 friends to go to the con together would be best. Sadly I can see that I will be going on my own (+ people I'm going to share the booth with) next 10 times i go participate in the comic con :) but guess that's ok ... I'm getting used to it. :)

Yaoi rules! I'm a total Fujoshi. LOL *evil grin*

I know those male characters are cosplaying by girls but I'm just a bit too short to... *DIE*
(your Naruko looks cute btw)
Also one reason is I was thinking once I start to do cosplay I really would keep trying to cosplay different characters in different Con ... like never ending spending money for those clothes and accessories ..

Your stuff would defo sell great in the American market. Good luck :-)

(I also want to hit the overseas Con or even the one in Taiwan or Macau, but I have no idea how and too lazy to figure it out *slap on my face* ...)

BTW, Dreaming is good! :-)

Otaku cafe....the one next to sino with the Ps3s....?

I wanted to see the taiwan/macau ones too >A< Apparently the participants are pretty good? Too bad I don't think I have enough time (yet) and I can't read any chinese lol;

--
SASUNARU IS LOVE~!!! :heart: :heart:
:iconladykylie:
sorry what is Ps3s? didn't get it ..

Otaku Cafe is opposite (in front of) sino centre, not next to it .. ehh how to explain. if you stand at the front door of Sino centre in Nathan road, you will see the short building with some anime stickers on the other side of the street on the window (3/F) ... look down. the entrance is tricky though. You will see a "promise" sign board and there's a small store selling cell phone accessories there. there you go :-)

The Macau one is pretty new ( I heard from people on my forum but I never been), but they like comics too. Taiwan is a HUGE market for Chinese doujin as they accept more different style (unlike HK) so anything there if the quality isn't bad should sell (again, I heard).

That's why I think it's better to try there - and a shame i wouldn't want to carry all the books and just to attend a comic con if I go travel ...
